Description:
Red Dead Redemption is a sandbox-style action-adventure western video game developed by Rockstar San Diego, due for release on May 18, 2010 in North America and on May 21, 2010 in Europe and Australia for the PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360. It is the successor to 2004's Red Dead Revolver. The game is set in 1908; it focuses around a former outlaw, John Marston. Marston has been given the primary directive by government agents to kill or capture his former gang members, which includes his old 'friend' and gang leader Bill Williamson. If he does not do so, his family will pay the price. Along the way Marston is given work as the game will use open world with sandbox environments and a free-roaming ability. The environments include frontier towns, deserts, prairies, and mountain passes. The game features over 40 different types of animals that can be hunted including cattle, bison, beaver, bears, cougars, rattlesnakes, deer, wolves, mustangs, coyotes, wild boars, vultures, bighorn sheep, elk, ducks, other birds, and more to be revealed Gameplay/nCombat and gunplay is a major part of the game. Gunfights in Red Dead Redemption are conducted using a third-person system. The player can slide to cover, target a specific person, blindfire, and free aim. Individual body parts can also be targeted. When the player shoots an enemy, the game engine uniquely creates the AI reactions. John Marston has an arsenal of weapons to choose from that include semi-automatic pistols, revolvers, shotguns, lever or bolt-action rifles, knives, dynamite, molotov cocktails , a lasso, and a mounted gatling gun or cannon. One combat feature that Marston can utilize is a Dead-Eye targeting system that can assist players when facing multiple enemies after a Dead-Eye bar is filled. Dead-Eye is used in a bullet-time like manner so the player can slow down the world to place a precise shot on an enemy. This system allows the player to 'paint' shots over an enemy or multiple enemies. After the user places all of their shots or after a set duration of time elapses, Dead-Eye aiming will end, and Marston will fire his weapon much faster than usual in a far more damaging fusillade./nRandom encounters generate as players explore the countryside, these include hangings, ambushes, pleas for help and animal attacks. Many Mini quests are available to challenge you in. These mini-games include showdowns, gambling, hunting bounties and animals, cattle herding, arm wrestling, five finger fillet and horseshoes. Players will also be able to buy treasure maps and follow them to treasures. Hunting bounties will earn the player cash upon killing a criminal or taking him to a sheriff alive, which provides a more substantial payment and positive honor. To complete a bounty, Marston can either kill himher, or take the fugitive alive. Taking fugitives alive may be more difficult for the player, as they must first be weakened with wounding shots and then immobilized by a hog tie. Marston must then travel back to a town, fugitive in tow, and turn him over to the law. Hunting animals is a fairly simple process; Marston must kill the game, skin it, and then sell the skins to a merchant. After a kill, vultures will appear, opening up a sharpshooting minigame. Completing this and other minigames earns you fame and can unlock other outfits. In addition, Marston can buy drinks at a bar, herd cattle, act as a security guard at ranches, and buy newspapers to learn what's happening across the game world. Another way to get news and hear stories is to join people at a camp, which also serve as a way to save the player's game progress./nAn Honor system allows the player to make morality-oriented choices that will make him more or less 'honorable'; usually, the less honorable side is on the wrong side of the law. An example is a group of travelers being held up by highwaymen; Marston can take the honorable path and shoot the robbers, or the dishonorable path and join them, killing the travelers and looting the bodies. Another system that works alongside the honor system is fame, which will affect the weight of Marston's actions and how people react to him, whether he be honorable or dishonorable. Multiplayer/nRed Dead Redemption has an extensive multiplayer mode. Instead of a lobby, it begins with a free-roaming multiplayer mode where players can run freely through the game world (similar to Grand Theft Auto IV). They can form gangs with other players they meet there. Development/nA trailer of the project was released to a select number of people at a Sony conference in 2005. On February 3, 2009, Rockstar Games announced the first official trailer./nOn May 6, 2009, the debut trailer became available for viewing on IGN and Rockstar's official website.(All music for the game and trailers composed by Woody Jackson and Bill Elm) The game will be developed using the Rockstar Advanced Game Engine used by Grand Theft Auto IV and Rockstar San Diego's own Midnight Club: Los Angeles, and will feature NaturalMotion's Euphoria animation engine. A second trailer revealing the game's release date was published on November 26, 2009 but was pulled later that day. The trailer was officially released on December 1, 2009, titled 'My Name is John Marston' , and gave information as to the central character of the story./nA gameplay trailer, "Gameplay Series: Introduction," was released during the second week of December 2009. A soft piano interlude proceeded the harsher Morricone-style music of the other trailers, showing off a different side of the games' soundtrack./nA third gameplay trailer was released on March 17, titled 'Gameplay Series: Life in the West'. This trailer shows that players can set up camp at the end of a day, or join camp with others and exchange tales of the current happenings in the game. The trailer features fiddle music and highlights four main characters: Nigel West Dickens, a snake oil salesmen who is constantly pestered by angry mobs, Irish, a drunk who is always missing when a fight breaks out, Seth Briars, a crazy prospector, and Professor Harold MacDougal, a professor from Yale who can't deal with the pressures of the West./nThe fourth gameplay trailer, "Gameplay Series: Life in the West Part II" was released on GameTrailers on April 1, 2010. It reveals some of the side-missions and incidental encounters that the player can expect during the game. Marston is shown fighting alongside a small army of non-player characters, duelling with another gunfighter in a mini-game similar to those featured in Red Dead Revolver and carrying a passenger on his horse as part of an escort mission. He is also shown wearing a coloured serepe reminiscent of those worn by the Man with No Name. Pre-order bonuses/nIn North America, Gamestop and Rockstar collaborated on a pre-order bonus in which customers could vote for one of three outfits that Marston could unlock in the game. Each outfit came with a different bonus. For example, "The Deadly Assassin" outfit allows Marston to regenerate "Dead-Eye" targeting twice as fast. The "Savvy Merchant" would halve the purchasing price of ammunition and guns and double the selling price for ammunition and guns. The "Expert Hunter" would double the amount of money the player could get from selling hides of animals. Voting was open to all, but only those who pre-ordered the game through Gamestop will receive the winning outfit, The Deadly Assassin./nAlong with the Gamestop pre-order special, there are several other pre-order bonuses through other game store chains throughout Australia, North America and U.K. These are the War Horse and the Golden Guns. The War Horse is a black horse with a white mane, tail and markings. The War Horse is praised as being "rare" as well as being "faster" and having "more health" than any other horse in the game. The Golden Guns are two guns that are literally gold. These guns give you more fame with each kill, allowing users to progress much quicker up the ladder of fame. The official online Rockstar Games store, the Rockstar Warehouse, offers a Red Dead Redemption t-shirt as the pre-order bonus./nA Limited Edition version of Red Dead Redemption has been announced in Australia and the U.K. This set includes the game as well as all 3 available pre-order bonuses (Deadly Assassin outfit, Gold Guns & War Horse), along with a soundtrack.
